About Us

The Highland FHS was set up in September 1981 to promote the study of genealogy, family history and related subjects in the Highlands of Scotland. We cover the counties of Caithness (CAI), Sutherland (SUT) Ross & Cromarty (ROC), Inverness-shire (INV), Nairn (NAI) and Argyll (ARL).

The Society welcomes membership from interested family historians in all parts of the world. The Society has a library located in its office in The Archove Centre, Bught Park, Inverness, Scotland.

Meetings are held in Inverness in the Spring and Autumn with speakers on topics of interest to family historians.

A quarterly Journal is published to keep members informed of developments within the Society and in the field of genealogy in general, to publish articles of interest and to publish specific reearch enquiries from members.

The Society does not act as a research agency. It is keen that, wherever possible, its members do their own research.
