About Us

The Society was formed in 1990 to promote the study of family history and genealogy in what was then the area of Central Regional Council. We cover the old counties of Stirlingshire, Clackmannanshire and West Perthshire as well as the parishes of Carriden and Bo'ness which at one time formed part of West Lothian. While of particular value to people whose forebears come from this area, the Society through its links with other groups in Scotland can be of service to family historians generally.

Members in all parts of the world are welcome to join. A collection of the relevant Old Parochial Records and census returns on film are housed by the Society in St ninians Library and can be accessed by the public.

Meetings are held from Oct to May on the 2nd Wed of the month except for Dec and May when it is the 1st Wed. Meetings are held in the Smith Art Gallery, Dumbarton Road, Stirling at 7.30p.m. Speakers are arranged on a variety of topics. Workshop(s) are held in various parts of the area covered by the Society each year. At the moment, all meetings are held virtually using zoom.
