Wiltshire Family History Society

About Us

Wiltshire Family History Society was founded in 1981 and has a worldwide membership. The Society's aim
is to encourage the study of family history, including both Wiltshire ancestry of people world-wide and world-wide
ancestry of Wiltshire residents. It aims to provide contacts between members by regular meetings and through
the quarterly Journal published in January, April, July and October. Members not only research their ancestors
by name but, by using all available information, seek to build up a complete picture of the people in the setting
in which they lived. As the Society consists of a friendly mixture of complete beginners and experienced family
historians there is every opportunity for beginners to receive encouragement in their researches.

Meetings are held at six centres around the county;
Chippenham (Second Tuesday each month, 7.15 pm)
Devizes (First and third Tuesday of each month, 7.30 pm)
Malmesbury (Fourth Wednesday each month, 7.00 pm)
Salisbury (Third Wednesday each month, 7.30 pm)
Swindon (Second and Fourth Thursday of each month, 7.30 pm)
Westbury (Fourth Thursday each month, 7.15 pm)

These meetings are open to all: if you live in the area or are just visiting why not pop in and discuss
any family history related problems or just enjoy the evening?

Details of our branch meetings are on our website www.wiltshirefhs.co.uk

You can also meet us at various open days. Those that we attend are listed in our "Events Calendar" on our website.

We have a Resource Centre, which is the focus of the Society's activities and, in addition to housing research
resources, it provides space for office activities, meetings and storage for the wide range of publications for sale.
It is located at Unit 3, Bath Road Business Centre, Devizes SN10 1XA, which is on the Bath Road (A361)
about one mile from the centre of Devizes, adjacent to the auction rooms and opposite the local shop
and Post Office. If travelling by bus ask for the "Bath Road Business Centre". See our website under
"Research" for details of arranging a visit.
