Wharfedale Family History Group

About Us

Founded in 1980, the group is open to anyone interested in tracing their ancestry. If your roots are in Wharfedale or further afield you will find help and encouragement in this fascinating hobby by joining the Wharfedale Family History Group.

Our quarterly journal, The Wharfedale Newsletter, includes articles, information and advice for both the beginner and more experienced member. We are always pleased to have articles to include in the journal and these can be sent by e-mail directly to The Editor. Any item, either on your own family history or about family history in general, no matter how small, will be considered. The group holds copies of various research aids including the International Genealogical Index and the 1881 census index on microfiche. The group also has its own library from which members may borrow books and a bookstall selling family and local history publications.

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at Burley Salem Church Hall, opposite the Queens Hall, starting at 7.30 pm and on the third Saturday of each month at Aynham Close, Grassington starting at 2.30pm. A speaker is normally arranged for these dates.
