Ulster Historical Foundation
Registered as a UK Charity No. XN48460
The Ulster Historical Foundation is a non-profit making organisation that was founded in 1956 to promote interest in Irish history and genealogy, with particular reference to the province of Ulster. It offers a comprehensive ancestral research service, publishes books on Irish history and genealogy, organises conferences and lecture tours and runs a membership club (Guild).
The Ulster Genealogical and Historical Guild was established by the Ulster Historical Foundation (UHF) in 1978 in response to appeals from overseas enquirers. The Guild is essentially a research cooperative and is managed like a book club with a membership register now passed the 7,000 mark. Covering the whole of Ireland and the Diaspora, it aims to prevent duplication of research effort and to bring together people with similar interests.
Subscription operates on a calendar year basis and members receive two annual publications: Familia - Ulster Genealogical Review which contains articles on Irish history and genealogy and the Directory of Irish Family History Research (formerly entitled the Guild Interest List) which is the most complete and up-to-date record of Irish genealogical research in progress. The Directory has enabled many subscribers to discover others working in the same or related fields and can be a means of putting them in contact with overseas relatives who are unknown to them.
