The book is out of print but it is available as a CD-ROM and a downloadable PDF file.

In 1795, a map of all the properties in Chipping Sodbury was produced to aid the setting of the Poor Law Rate. Many of the owners, occupiers and trades carried on in these properties have been tracked up to the present time using sources such as deeds, directories and census data. This book contains a pictorial record of all the properties with details of known occupiers since 1795.

It is the result of a project originated by the Sodbury Vale Family History Group of the Bristol & Avon Family History Society. A4 softback book, fully illustrated, over 400 pages. (13.97)

A 20 page index of 1262 surnames recorded in alphabetical order with each map reference number is also available as a free download from our website. Compiled by John and Val Gearing.

Complete Works of Charles Evans (Book Version)

£ 28.00
   + P&P
Charles Evans, FSA, FSG, was well known for his medieval scholarship; it was also his life's ambition to take back his own (and later his wife's) ancestry as far as possible along as many lines as possible. The FMG, with the agreement of his family, have published this collection of his entire published works to recognise the centenary of his birth in 1903. It includes scholarly articles, book reviews, letters to editors, and notes and queries. Many of the papers include the author's own annotations with corrections, additions and amplifications of particular points. District Blue Book of Eastern Sussex (1885)

This superb directory, published by WT Pike of Hastings, is a little gem. Each place is described in the tiniest of detail, in one case it even describes the English Oak tree on the village green! At the front is there is a court directory with the names and addresses of residents in the general area. The towns of Rye and Bexhill have a street by street, house by house lists of individuals plus a private directory with names and addresses, other larger towns and villages have a commercial directory with the names of the tradespeople. The smaller places have lists of individuals and their occupations..

Due to the fact that this directory does not cover the whole of the county of Sussex, here is a list of all of the places in the book: Asburnham, Battle, Beckly, Bexhill on Sea, Bodiam Brede, Brightling, Broad Oak, Broomham, Broomhill and Camber Castle, Bulverhythe, Burwash, Burwash Weald, Catsfield, Crowborough, Dallington, East Guldford, Eridge Green, Etchingham, Ewhurst, Fairlight, Flimwell, Frant, Hastings and St Leonards, Hollington, Hurstgreen, Icklesham, Lamberhurst, Mark Cross, Mayfield, Mountfield, Ninfield, Northiam, Ore, Peasmarsh, Penhurst, Pett, Playden, Robertsbridge, Rotherfield, Rye, Salehurst, Sedlescombe, Ticehurst, Udimore, Wadhurst, Westfield, Winchelsea.
