An account of the town's endeavour to do it's share in those dark years of the Great War.
Even down to a seven year old child saving his pocket money for, in his words. "I want to win this war by saving up my money. When I get 15s. and 6d. I will take it to the War Office and lend it to buy some warships. Then when the war is over I can tell the soldiers I have done my little bit."

The book covers aspects such as collections for war funds, war pensions, the Belgian refugees, food & fuel, prisoner's comfort funds and many other subjects.

A useful history of the parish of Chiddingly from the Norman Conquest to the nineteenth century.
Amongst the documents mentioned is a listing of the Subsidy Roll of 24 Edw. I. (1296) through the manorial history of the parish, the "arms" of Chiddingly families and a listing of the incumbents from1407 to 1847.
Also includes transcriptions of memorial inscriptions both in the church and in the churchyard.
