Crossens - Southport's Cinderella Suburb

Description

By Harry Foster. Crossens, part of the parish of North Meols, was a detached settlement on the northern fringe of what is now Southport. With a history quite different from that of other areas of the town, its situation on the southern bank of the Ribble estuary resulted in it enjoying much richer agricultural land. Farming dominated Crossens, but in the early ninteenth century, it became on out-of-sight dormitory for the townz's poorest paid labourers and others.
