General Loft's Lincolnshire Notes 1826-1844

Description

Between 1826 and 1844, General Loft travelled around Lincolnshire, from Goxhill on the River Humber, to Grantham in the south of the county. He described churches, and recorded monumental inscriptions from over 100 Lincolnshire churchyards. In some parishes he copied items from parish records, registers and account books. He talked to the locals, hearing gossip, legends and the day to day problems, in a time of many changes. He noted non-conformist churches, and copied some printed sources, including land sale notices from newspapers. Includes over 2000 surnames. In PDF format
