This superb directory, published by WT Pike of Hastings, is a little gem. Each place is described in the tiniest of detail, in one case it even describes the English Oak tree on the village green! At the front is there is a court directory with the names and addresses of residents in the general area. The towns of Rye and Bexhill have a street by street, house by house lists of individuals plus a private directory with names and addresses, other larger towns and villages have a commercial directory with the names of the tradespeople. The smaller places have lists of individuals and their occupations..
Due to the fact that this directory does not cover the whole of the county of Sussex, here is a list of all of the places in the book: Asburnham, Battle, Beckly, Bexhill on Sea, Bodiam Brede, Brightling, Broad Oak, Broomham, Broomhill and Camber Castle, Bulverhythe, Burwash, Burwash Weald, Catsfield, Crowborough, Dallington, East Guldford, Eridge Green, Etchingham, Ewhurst, Fairlight, Flimwell, Frant, Hastings and St Leonards, Hollington, Hurstgreen, Icklesham, Lamberhurst, Mark Cross, Mayfield, Mountfield, Ninfield, Northiam, Ore, Peasmarsh, Penhurst, Pett, Playden, Robertsbridge, Rotherfield, Rye, Salehurst, Sedlescombe, Ticehurst, Udimore, Wadhurst, Westfield, Winchelsea.
