1881 Census - Colony of Heligoland (Helgoland)

Record Series Four (1999). A copy and index to the census of 5 April 1881 census for the then British colony of Heligoland which is held in the Colonial Office records in the PRO (ref. CO 122/37). The census gives names, ages, occupations and relationships but not places of birth. Helgoland (the current German spelling) consists of two islands in the North Sea off Hamburg and Bremen. The formerly Danish colony was given to Germany in 1890 in exchange for Zanzibar. 2 fiche + A5 card covers.
