Description

The CD and Download cover the WW1 Casualties listed in the Merthyr Express from 1914 - 1919. The obituaries were found throughout the newspaper in the form of death notices, an obituary column, accident reports, coroner's inquests and funeral reports. These were scattered throughout starting on the front page, which had a 'Births, Marriages & Deaths column consisting mainly of 'Deaths' within sections of 'Acknowledgements' and 'In Memoriam'. Deaths could be in a number of places, a separate column, under 'Events of the Week' or in various columns under 'place' Aberdare, Abercwmboi,Cwmaman, Cwmbach, Dowlais, Hirwaun and so on.
