CS250 - Hilmarton & Goatacre Manorial Court Records 1749-1890

Description

A4 book softback. 172 pages.

We are publishing a Summary and Names Index of some of the Wiltshire manorial court records held in Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre (WSHC). The Manorial Documents Register (MDR), maintained by The National Archives, provides information on the surviving records for a manor and their location in the archives holding manorial documents in England. WSHC holds court records for 304 manors. For many manors, this represents only a partial record: other archives hold some of the manor court rolls or books and survival of the records is incomplete. We have made a summary of the court proceedings rather than provide a full transcription because the original records, though fascinating to read, are lengthy, repetitive, and the language very formulaic.

This publications is also available on CD and Download - See Section 1 - Other compilation and single source CDs - CD39 Manorial Court records - Volumes 1 to 5
