About Us

The Bourne Society was formed in 1956 and takes its name from the underground streams which follow the lines of the A22 and A23 roads in East Surrey, meeting in Purley to flow northward to the River Wandle.

The objectives of the Society are to extend the knowledge of local (and associated family) history in the districts of Caterham, Chaldon, Chelsham, Chipstead, Coulsdon, Farleigh, Godstone, Kenley Purley, Sanderstead, Whyteleafe, Warlingham and Woldingham and to ensure the preservation of records and objects of historical interest.

Details of the Society's activities are found on our website www.bourne-society.org.uk
