ABSTRACTS OF SOMERSET WILLS

Description

In 1942, Somerset and Devon lost one of the most important research sources for local and family historians, when a German bomb destroyed the Exeter Probate Office, and all of the wills that it contained. This being the case collections of transcripts and extracts of wills are so important to those of us with connections to these counties. One of the most important sources for Somerset is the collection of abstracts that was made by the Reverend Frederick Brown at the end of the 19th century, these were published in six volumes between 1887 and 1890 by Frederick Crisp. Only one hundred and fifty sets were ever produced and their rarity is reflected in the price of those that do occasionally come up for sale. This CD contains digitised version of all six volumes, that is fully searchable and will prove invaluable to anyone studying the local or their family history in Somerset.
